Future-2007 and Beyond
Dr Lim is an advocate for Neurology and Sleep Health in Singapore. She believes in a holistic approach to health, with the philosophy that good sleep is an integral component of good health, optimal brain function and balanced living. She fully endorses Quality Sleep, Regular Exercise and Healthy Eating as the basic triumvirate of good health. As a Neurologist and Sleep Physician who sees many patients with brain disorders, psychological problems and sleep disturbances, she strongly believes that all 3 are closely linked. “Scientific evidence has shown that the lack of quality sleep leads to poor performance, ill health and shortens life. Yet many continue to shortchange themselves on sleep, without realizing that sleep cannot be sacrificed without significant personal cost. It is unfortunate that so many people have not had the opportunity to learn how important healthy sleep is to optimum physical & emotional health, and work & school performance. Many more would achieve their full potential if they understood how to incorporate good sleeping habits in addition to regular exercise and healthy eating into their daily lives.”
To improve Neurology & Sleep health and awareness in 2007 and beyond, Dr Lim will continue her educational efforts through her clinical and academic work at the Singapore Neurology & Sleep Centre, Singapore General Hospital, National Neuroscience Institute and Alexandra Hospital, and through the Singapore Sleep Society, Cleveland Clinic Alumni Singapore and the Clinical Neuroscience Society, working with a multidisciplinary team of Neurology and Sleep professionals committed to improving Neurology and Sleep Health in Singapore.
A leading priority is international accreditation of Sleep Medicine programmes in Singapore. Other projects include overseeing publication of Singapore’s first Handbook of Sleep Medicine for General Practitioners, and the Sleep Medicine Continuing Medical Education programmes for the Singapore General Hospital and the Singapore Sleep Society. Besides clinical, administrative and teaching activities, she will continue her research work with her team, studying local sleep problems and their impact on common conditions like heart disease, stroke, depression, menopause diabetes and obesity.
